Project Overview
A new 170m long pedestrian boardwalk across Canada Water Dock. This boardwalk will improve accessibility and connectivity within the town centre, connecting Canada Water Station with the new urban centre and providing a new way for people to experience the wetland and water without disturbing the environment. Designed by Asif Khan, the boardwalk is a one-of-a-kind architectural landmark inspired by the historic Surrey Docks.
Scope Overview
We initially entered into a PCSA stage to support the design of this new public space at the centre of British Land's 53 acre Canada Water regeneration scheme. Our works included sheet piling and groundworks activities to facilitate the installation of the new 170m-long Boardwalk, a key feature of the Canada Dock restoration project. In addition to supporting the boardwalk construction, our works have enabled the wider restoration of the dock, including the creation of access to the water's edge, an amphitheatre, dipping pond and pergola. Together, these enhancements will transform Canada Dock into an attractive and accessible destination, promoting recreation, community engagement and opportunities for people to connect with nature.
Environmental protection has remained a priority throughout delivery. An Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) supported our site clearance activities, ensuring nesting birds were safeguarded through the provision of reedbed rafts and platforms located away from active work areas. The ECoW continued to monitor the effectiveness of these mitigation measures throughout the works, helping to ensure the successful protection and enhancement of local biodiversity.
