Finsbury Park Station

A 2-year program of excavation and tunnelling that allowed for the construction of two new lift shafts, staircases and two new cross platform underground passageways, leading to the new entrance of Finsbury Park Station via the new future Mall.

Scope Overview

Working within the highly constrained environment of Finsbury Park, a station serving approximately 27 million passengers each year, we delivered complex excavation and tunnelling works on a 24/7 programme while maintaining operations around live railway infrastructure. The project involved deep shaft excavations between two operational rail lines and above the Victoria Line, requiring extensive temporary works, careful logistics planning and robust controls for noise, vibration and waste management.

Using a combination of mechanical excavation and hand-mining techniques, we constructed two deep shafts and an interconnecting cross-passage, with the primary shaft subsequently encased in reinforced concrete upon completion.
