Scope Overview
- Phase 1 - Southern Green Tunnel and South Portal Construction: The southern section of the asset, comprising the south portal and approximately 201m of green tunnel, was constructed using a cast in situ open-cut methodology. This section was formed within an open excavation, allowing the tunnel structure to be constructed from the base upwards before backfilling and reinstatement.
- Phase 2 – Cut and Cover Tunnel and North Porous Portal Construction: The remaining approximately 511m of tunnel, including the north porous portal, was delivered using a top-down cut and cover construction methodology supported by Diaphragm Walls (D-Walls). During the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, we developed and proposed the incorporation of roof slab void openings to facilitate excavation from multiple locations along the tunnel length. This innovative approach significantly improved construction efficiency, delivering both programme acceleration and cost savings for our client.
