Project Overview
This phase of our framework with client, British Land, saw us commence works to construct a substation for UKPN fit out. Initial works included site clearance and demolition, which later led into the construction of a 2 storey deep, 1200m2 concrete substation shell for UKPN fitout. The substation, once completed, will measure 40 meters in width and 10 meters in depth.
Scope Overview
The project involved the delivery of a deep basement structure requiring complex temporary works, including a specialist heavy-duty propping system integrated with the construction methodology and logistics strategy. We developed a phased construction approach to facilitate the installation of critical UKPN equipment, incorporating dedicated access, egress and lifting arrangements, crane platforms and service infrastructure. Close collaboration with the client and UKPN throughout the design and construction process ensured efficient coordination, minimised programme risks and supported the successful delivery of the works.

What Our Client Says
The design and delivery of the 86 MVA substation will service not only our 53-acre development but the wider southeast London area. It's a great example of partnership working, including British Land, UK Power Networks, Clancy, Galldris, and Southwark Council, providing a major enabler of change for the area. It supports our delivery of 3,000 new homes, one million square feet of leisure and retail, and two million square feet of workspace, which wouldn't be possible at such a level without this new substation.
